Чисто бакучиолово масло, a meroterpene phenol (CAS No. 10309-37-2), is made from babchi nuts. The colour is thick and yellow to brownish yellow, and the smell is mild and earthy.

The method used to get it is different from getting crude Babchi oil. Phototoxic furocoumarins like Psoralen and Isopsoralen are removed by molecular distillation and fractionation. At the same time, the amount of active Bakuchiol is raised to over 98%.

It works in the body the same way that Vitamin A does, through genes. It raises the amounts of collagen types I, III, and IV, lowers the activity of 5-alpha-reductase, and raises the amount of Aquaporin-3. As a result, it doesn't bind to retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and doesn't cause the usual "retinoid reaction" of burning, redness, or scaling.
